The Astons Website

Welcome to the Scenic Villages of Aston Tirrold and Aston Upthorpe.

The two villages lie to the north of the Berkshire Downs in Oxfordshire, just off the A417 and three miles from the market towns of Wallingford and Didcot. Both these villages have been inhabited since people first made their way along the ancient track known as The Ridgeway that is about three miles south on the Downs. The villages have a population of about 600 and are a lively and engaging environment for the local community who live here.

September in the Astons

The villages sit right next to each other and behave as one community although there are formally two parish councils! Plenty of attractive and traditional cob walling, thatch cottages and flint and brick houses add to the ambiance of the villages and provide much historical and visual interest.

There are three churches in the two villages - the unusual church of All Saints and The United Reformed Church are in Aston Upthorpe and St. Michael's Church in Aston Tirrold.

There are a number of useful commercial activities in the village, including The Chequers Inn with a French restaurant, The Sweet Olive, The Chequers Garage, Bed and Breakfast at The Old Boot, PPP weekly Pilates classes, Something for the Weekend home baking and garden services.

You can download our Brief for New Arrivals to the Astons document here, which summarises much of the information on this site and includes other useful notes on the area.
